A cat goes in for a nail trim and comes out bleeding and hitting her own face with her paw

Complaint: Complaint 18-58
Respondent: Donald Rollins
Premises: AZPetVet White Tanks Animal Hospital

The complainant says she dropped her cat off for a nail trim and Rollins examined her cat. She says Rollins said the front paw had an ingrown nail, that the cat's teeth were sound overall with severe dental disease in back, and commented favorably on the cat's behavior. When the complainant got the cat back from the trim she was informed the cat might be somewhat bloody from biting one of the techs; at home the cat is said to have been unable to walk, there was significant blood, the jaw appeared misaligned, and the cat was also said to be hitting herself in the face. A follow-up exam told her that one of the teeth had been dislodged and would need to be pulled; the complainant also says she was given contradictory information on when the injury occurred.

Rollins says that he actually told the complainant that the cat's teeth were in quite bad shape and a big dental was in order. He also states that the cat became hostile and that all measures were taken to keep the cat safe. He concludes by stating that the cat went home in good condition and that the standards of care were met.

The Investigative Committee said the "cat's tooth was already on its way out" and could have happened for a variety of reasons, ranging from being muzzled to biting. They also said a provided video showed no wrongdoing on Rollins' part.
